20/20 describes what someone can see as measured 20 feet away from them – the letters, ‘E’, or symbols used to measure vision at the doctors office are standardized in size and color. Someone who is legally blind – 20/200 vision by definition – has to stand 20 feet away from something that a person with normal vision – 20/20 vision – can stand 200 feet away from. Talk about a handicap: that’s like a drag race where one car has to start 200 feet behind another.
